Pastor arrested for lottery scamming

Up to late yesterday, a pastor arrested on Saturday for breaches of the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transaction) (Special Provision) Act had still not being charged.

Detectives attached to the Westmoreland Proactive Investigation Unit arrested the pastor on Cooke Street in Savanna-la-Mar, in the parish.

Reports are that on Wednesday, January 27, an operation was carried out at the pastor's home on Cooke Street. A search of a room he occupied yielded more than 50 sheets of paper populated with identity information of persons living overseas.

Following further investigations, the pastor was arrested for his suspected involvement into the illicit lottery scamming. Police said he would be interviewed in the presence of his lawyer following which; formal charges will be proffered against him.

Police said investigations continue.
