Six left homeless after fire guts Spanish Town house

Six people have been left homeless after a fire of unknown origin gutted a three-apartment board, clay and concrete house along Old Market Street in Spanish Town, St Catherine, early this morning.

Reports are that about 2 a.m. on Tuesday, September 15, fire was seen coming from a section of the dwelling.

The blaze quickly spread, engulfing the entire structure and destroying everything in its path.

Two units from the Spanish Town Fire Brigade responded and eventually extinguished the flames.

Several residents said the fire moved rapidly through the building, leaving the occupants with little to salvage.

Despite the devastation, resident Martin Chang said he was grateful that everyone escaped alive.

“I am very thankful that life have been spared and we know that material things can be replace, but life cannot be.”

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

The property was reportedly not insured.

The Spanish Town police are investigating.
