Clarification & Apology
The Star wishes to clarify that the story that appeared under the headline, 'Harassed for being Black? Woman to sue Chinese supermarket for racial profiling', which appeared on pages 1 and 3 of the Friday publication of March 11, 2016, was not meant to assert that General Foods Supermarket was guilty of racial profiling. Rather, the headline in question was intended to report what appeared at the time to be a serious allegation made by one of its customers.
The report did contain the customer's complaint, but the body of the story also included a response from a director of the supermarket, who rejected as baseless the suggestion of any form of racial profiling by General Foods.
The Star apologises for any misunderstanding resulting from the wording of its headline.
