A woman's fart has caused a fire at a hospital in Tokyo.

The unnamed woman, believed to be in her 30s, was undergoing laser surgery on her cervix at Tokyo's Medical University Hospital in the Japanese city when the gas she expelled ignited the laser.

The resulting fire left the woman with serious burns to large parts of her body, including her waist and legs.

The incident took place in April, however, details have only just emerged following an investigation into the cause of the fire.

A statement released by a committee of experts read: "When the patient's intestinal gas leaked into the space of the operation (room), it ignited with the irradiation of the laser, and the burning eventually reached the surgical drape and caused the fire."

A Dracula-loving brother and sister have spent the night sleeping in coffins.

Robin and Tami Varma have become the first overnight guests at the Bran Fortress - where Bram Stoker got the inspiration for his novel Dracula - in more than 70 years.

The pair spent the night sleeping in coffins in the Romanian castle, dubbing the experience as "comfortable".

Tami, 31, said in a video: "This might be more comfortable than my mattress at home, although I don't know how we'll sleep tonight."

According to the Daily Mirror newspaper, Robin, 30, added: "I actually might close the lid on my coffin."

Tami also recalled how their grandfather had visited the grounds in 1976.

She said: "He said that on his way out, he had heard these footsteps behind him, and he said he could feel the evil in the air and in the walls."

Their stay comes as a prize from a competition run by Airbnb, complete with horse-drawn carriage ride.

A brown bear has married a couple in Russia.

The 294-pound bear - named Stepan - was invited to the wedding of Russian couple Denis and Nelya, both 41, and stepped in to play the role of the registrar.

Denis told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "We both knew Stepan is a very kind bear, but still it is a huge, unpredictable animal, so we were a bit scared but still happy to be able to make our dream come true."

And despite being somewhat apprehensive of Stepan's marrying qualifications, the pair admitted it was a "fantastic experience".

Denis added: "It was a fantastic experience to have this photoshoot with Stepan.

"It is such a special feeling to hug a real, huge bear, and you cannot compare it to anything else. We will absolutely remember this day forever."

Sex robots are set to hit the market in 2017.

The mechanical sex workers - who have fully functioning genitalia - will be made available next year and will set the purchaser back by up to PS12,000.

They will also include built-in heaters to simulate body heat, and will contain sensors that respond to touch.

Matt McMullen, the founder of RealDolls, the maker of the devices, told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "I want to have people actually develop an emotional attachment to not only the robot but the actual character behind it - to develop some kind of love for this being."

David Levy, author of Love And Sex With Robots, claimed the next step would be the ability to marry robots.

He said: "The next major advance will enable us to use our technology to have intimate encounters with the technology itself - to fall in love with the technology, to have sex with robots and to marry them."
