Web series buzzing for Chiney K
Jamaica-born media personality Kerry-Ann 'Chiney K' Collins has a potential hit vlog on her hands with her growing web series called 'On My Mind'.
As the title suggests, the series, a high-quality, vox-pop style entertaining piece, was developed by Chiney K as a video diary, where she asks herself a question, immediately thereafter revealing the answer. Then she takes to the streets with microphone and camera in tow, inviting the public into this diary, collecting all the other thoughts she can.
"I shoot, I edit, I direct. I even did the music for di likkle intro ting," she said. Chiney K was raised in Jamaica, but migrated to the United States at the age of 15. She holds a degree in Media Studies from William Patterson University.
"Ultimately, I want to have my own entertainment-centred company, where I could bring different content from one part of the world to other parts of the world, but it's a one woman show right now," she said.
She aspires to eventually have her content syndicated on television networks across the world, and is working on extending her episodes into half-hour programmes.
"It won't just be question and answer all the way! I've come up with different segments, focuses and all that," she said. "It's web-based because this is the social media age. I want to take On My Mind to Africa, France, Trinidad ... I think it's important to hear what people are saying in different cultures. It's interesting to hear how people even process questions differently."
For now, Chiney K travels back and forth from New Jersey to Los Angeles to Jamaica, using her frequent travels to capture moments for her series. She said her vlog 'What Americans Think About Jamaica' is the most viewed, amassing 130,000 views on Facebook. "The video, 'Message to Vybz Kartel' is the second most viewed, surprisingly!" she said. It has 101,000 views.
Chiney K will be spending a great part of her summer in Jamaica, collecting more content and seeking sponsorship.
