Major Lazer shows off dancehall in docu-series
Dancehall supergroup Major Lazer has added documentaries to its ever-expanding entertainment catalogue. Earlier this year, premium streaming television platform Hulu and Live Nation, the world's leading live entertainment and ticketing company, announced a new virtual reality docu-series called ON STAGE.
Last Tuesday, Major Lazer released their installment of the docu-series on Hulu, where owners of VR headsets can enjoy aspects of the concert and behind-the-scenes footage in an immersive experience.
The first installment featured American superstar rapper Lil' Wayne, who offered glimpses into his personal passions and inspirations, and features never-before-seen footage from Lil Weezyana Fest.
The second installment carries audiences to the streets of Kingston, Jamaica, through the eyes of international music group Major Lazer.
Comprising American DJ Diplo, Trinidadian DJ Jillionaire, and their tireless selector/hype man Walshy Fire, the music group attended its annual destination concert Major Lazer and Friends in the company of a Hulu production crew, which also followed the group through the capital city.
The intent of the production is to explore the roots of modern dancehall alongside Major Lazer as the group recounts how Jamaica and its musical styles influence and inspire their music.
"They [Hulu] gave us some cues as to how it may come out, but the stage set-up is still what it is. It was very minorly tweaked. You'll be able to almost kind of walk around, look at the crowd, look at the bar, look at the stage, and do what you wanna do," Walshy Fire told THE STAR.
