J Capri Foundation official launch moved to January

Since the passing of Jordan 'J Capri' Phillips, the family of the beloved dancehall recording artiste has strived to keep her memory alive through various means including a sponsorship foundation.

The foundation has donated funds to selected students at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts where the artiste studied music.

The foundation has also rewarded primary level students who succeeded in the Grade Six Achievement Test examination with monetary scholarships.

It was the wish of Oradell 'Debbie' Carwin, J Capri's mother, to formally introduce the foundation to the public as well as launch the official website this month. However there have been a few setbacks.

Carwin had informed THE STAR previously that, "We are in the process of setting up the website and everything for the official launch in December 2017. If a student wants to apply for a scholarship they can sign up via the website and give details on what they want to pursue and explain why deserve the scholarship."

However when THE STAR contacted Carwin recently, she was too emotional to speak or provide any update on the status of the launch but said she would give us information as soon as possible.

Monday, December 4 will mark two years since J Capri succumbed to injuries received in a car accident. It is still a difficult subject for her family to speak about, especially with the artiste's birthday being December 24 and the month being a time for family celebration in the Christmas season.

It was already anticipated that the month would be a very difficult time to plan and execute the J Capri Foundation's project but Carwin expressed, "I try my best; it's not something easy that anyone can deal with, an only child's death. Sometimes I listen to her music, other times I can't and this is one of the reasons I am doing the foundation to keep her name alive and her music going."

J Capri's music was actually named one of the top sellers for female artistes in August at the 21st Hapilos Digital Music Awards and many persons discussed that she showed great promise in the Jamaican music industry.

She is known for singles such Whine and Kotch, Reverse It and Pull Up to Mi Bumper.
