Dancehall artiste Bad Gyal Jade is hoping to be the final lucky act to take part in Charlie Sloth's 'Fire in the Booth' which is coming to Jamaica.

The popular freestyle platform will be having 'The JA Cypher' with six handpicked Jamaican artistes, with another being selected based on social media entries. Bad Gyal Jade has followed the instructions of uploading her freestyle entry video, using the required hashtags and tags.

Speaking to THE WEEKEND STAR, Bad Gyal Jade said she hopes to be selected as "I am the next female legend. I've been working for my spot and it's about time now. Mi need my fair share."

Fire in the Booth is aired on Apple Music and YouTube and has welcomed the likes of the late Pop Smoke, BenDaDonnn, Unknown P and Jasiah.

Bad Gyal Jade, whose given name is Mickala Williams, is no stranger to freestyles. Though she came to prominence in the 2018 edition of the Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall competition, she has arguably expanded her following through freestyles. Just this month she won the 1Matik rhythm challenge, hosted by producer CJ The Chemist and deejay Govana.

"I won a spot on the rhythm and my song Toxic will be dropping soon," she said. "It will be mixed and mastered by Chemist and Govana and officially added to the compilation." But despite her success in the area, Bad Gyal Jade doesn't consider herself a freestyle artiste.

"I just do this for my fans," she said. "It keeps me trending and relevant and gets me a lot of new fans." As for her full-length songs, she is currently promoting Distance produced by Galarush Records. She recently shot the music video and hopes to release it soon.

While the pandemic has taken its toll on many of her peers, Bad Gyal Jade said the period has seen "more people listening to my music now than before and I am grateful."
