Briani keen to pass on Christmas traditions
Singer, architect, mother and another of Romeich Music's prodigies, Briani, says she is blessed to have a son to whom she can pass on her family Christmas tradition.
"I wouldn't call it a new tradition. Decorating the Christmas tree with my mom is always something that I looked forward to. But it is a blessing to have a son that I can share that tradition with," the singer/songwriter explained.
Briani, who performed Platinum alongside her son's father Christopher Martin, and who recently released Let's Play, which is getting major airplay, says her family farm in Clarendon is the place to be each Christmas. She noted that the get-together is something that she has been doing since she was a girl. She said Christmas always starts with a period of thanksgiving and spring cleaning.
"My mother was big on giving back to the community and giving back to the less fortunate, and it was something that she instilled in us, reminding us how fortunate we are no matter what the circumstance," she said. Two things stood out during the period for Briani. One was the food (she describes herself a foodie) but there was more.
"It was just a period where you knew for certain that the entire family will be gathered together whether from Jamaica or all around," she said.
Being big on family, Briani said this period for her is always a blessing. Now as a career woman and a mother, family is even more important.
"No matter how busy I am, where I am, I ensure that I find my way back to Jamaica to celebrate with my family. It's been the same tradition since I was born and I am hoping that my kids and grandkids can continue," she said. As for this Christmas, Briani insists that COVID will not be changing how she celebrates Christmas this year as most of her relatives are vaccinated.
"And we will be in an open area celebrating the way we always do together as one," she said. As for what is on her wish list for this Christmas, Briani said she wants happiness and prosperity.
"I genuinely believe the older and wiser we get, our idea of the Christmas gift or a gift in general becomes very intangible because we value certain aspects of life so much more. So for me, my wish for this year is good health and prosperity for me and my family definitely, and success."
She said 2022 has great things in store for her in the architectural and musical industries. On the music side she has an EP scheduled to come out under the Romeich Entertainment label.
