Reggae-fusion artiste Ra'Shain showcases her eclectic sound on her latest single, 1st Crime, which was released last month on the Imijh and Pryme Inc labels.

In 1st Crime, Ra'Shain sings about "the joys and the pains that come with forbidden love", having stolen another woman's lover. She acknowledged the "heartache" that has been caused by her actions, but said it was "too late to turn back now".

She sings:

"I just commit my first crime

Stole you from another

Just commit my first crime.

Stole your heart and gave you mine

My first crime.

I stole you from another

I just commit my first crime."

"The feedback so far has been amazing. I will be stepping up promotion through my social media platforms during Reggae Month to get the most mileage out of the single," Ra'Shain said.

Given name Rashaine Bean, Ra'Shain was born in Kingston. She grew up with her brother in Cassava Piece, St Andrew, in a two-parent household. She attended Holy Childhood High School, where her love for instruments grew. The school choir entered the All Together Sing competition and she fell in love with live performing.

Her fascination with music afforded her the opportunity to travel to countries such as Trinidad and Tobago, where she specialised in steel band and percussions.

She transitioned from high school to the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts, where she majored in steel pan and the saxophone, and gained a bachelor's degree, with honours, in music performance.
