‘I was really scared’ - Mr Lexx said he kept asking doctors if he was going to die
Veteran dancehall artiste Mr Lexx is in high spirits after getting a second chance at life following what he admitted was a near-death experience.
He was hospitalised for two weeks at the Andrews Memorial Hospital (AMH) after his right lung collapsed during a performance on January 23. The deejay told THE WEEKEND STAR that he is now relaxing at a local resort where he is rehabilitating for a couple of days. He was released from hospital last Saturday.
"The first thing I did after getting discharged was get on my knees and thank the Lord for like 15 minutes and said 'Thank you Lord for giving me the opportunity to save some of my friends'. I am even more scared now about my friends who I know smoke even harder than me... I was just up and a smoke and nuh business 'bout mi body but now I know," he remarked.
While he basks in his 'second chance at life', Mr Lexx admitted that he thought about death regularly.
"I must have asked the doctor about 17 times, 'mi ago dead? Mi naw no go dead right?' I was super scared," he joked. He also admitted that he is not fond of hospitals because of tragic circumstances involving friends. "I had friends who went to the hospital and didn't come back out," he shared, citing Mr Chicken, Toots Hibbert and Robbie Shakespeare.
"I was really scared. I got even more petrified when I had to do the second surgery. It was that time when I said I had to find something to take this off my mind and that's when I started to do the TikTok videos dem," he shared. The experience has led him to commit to a smoke-free life and to be more mindful of how he treats his body.
"I wasn't big on smoking cigarettes but I do blend it inna mi weed most times. I smoke weed constantly every day. I would say about six, seven spliff every day or maybe more," he shared. "Smoking chapter, that's done." He said that he is grateful for all the well wishes he has received but has no immediate plans for public appearances.
"I'm just with my immediate circle for now," the Full 100 deejay shared. He admitted that he has some follow-up routines to adhere to as he steadily makes his way back to full health.
Mr Lexx also praised the medical staff at the hospital for the care he received.
"Thanks to Dr Irvine, Nurse Morris, Carty, Johnson and everyone on unit 300 at AMH. I can't say thanks enough," he said. He also gave special shout-outs to fellow entertainers Mavado, Sean Paul and Gramps Morgan and his backup singers Robyn, Renee and Cami for their support.
