Young Jammy wants to leave his mark on music
STAR on the Rise, Young Jammy, whose given name is Demario Rohan Brown, has always loved the local music scene and appreciated the impact that it has had on the world.
Recently returning to the island after spending some years living in Trinidad and Tobago, he hopes that outside of his contribution to the culture, there will be more partnerships between the industry and external entities.
"We need to see stronger embracing from corporate structures, more investments and public education on what impact the music has on our people and society development," he shared.
It is no secret that Jamaica arguably has some of the most talented underground artistes who, if given the chance, can wow audiences globally. Young Jammy aims to do just that, as he carves his path in the music industry with a dream of becoming a globally charting entertainer and blazing a musical trail of which he can be proud.
"My ultimate goal is (to be content with) how I satisfied my own legacy. This means I will have to be mindful in my journey and in what I deliver to my people. I want to deliver good music in creative ways, hitting the global charts, getting awards, and becoming a symbol of reality to my fans globally and locally," he shared.
The 21-year-old singjay and songwriter hails from Spanish Town, St Catherine. At age 14, he migrated to live with his mother in Trinidad and Tobago. According to him, he grew up in a normal, Christian household and fondly remembers hiding and going fishing with his friends as a child. He first discovered his love for music at age eight, but he started taking music more seriously recently.
"I would say three years ago was when I began my musical journey in a professional way. The music that I create is a reflection of the inspiration of things I see taking place around me. I put words and melodies together for a musical composition which creates a 'Young Jammy' sound. (Living in both Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago) gives me a different viewpoint because there are differences in the culture even though we are similar in background, and that also influences my sound," Young Jammy shared.
He recorded his first song, Live in Love in December 2018, which he said received positive feedback and encouraged him to keep going. Young Jammy also blends reggae, dancehall, soca and R&B sounds.
He is gearing up to release his newest singles, Stress Free and Spain Town, on the Free People Entertainment and Chase Mills labels, respectively. He hopes to continue to highlight his readiness for a big break.
"What's going to set me apart is my sound and the positive vibes I am giving. This is Young Jammy all different," he shared.
