Unruly Stumpy cools Ruff Kut in Magnum sound clash

St Thomas-based sound system Unruly Stumpy on Friday felled one of their main nemesis, Ruff Kut, after they faced off in the knockout round of the Magnum All-Star Sound Clash.

Despite its popularity, Ruff Kut, a popular St Elizabeth sound, was beaten in all five rounds by Unruly Stumpy in the clash held at the All-Star headquarters on Olympic Way in St Andrew.

"We feel 100 per cent confident in the clash, because think about it, in this type of clash you have to be prepared and just think outside of the box," said Stumpy, who is the owner of the Unruly Stumpy Sound.

Ruff Kut and Unruly Stumpy first faced off in the preliminaries on March 10. On that occasion, Ruff Kut came out victorious. However, Unruly Stumpy took the feedback from the judges and executed a stellar battle.

"We hurt ourselves in the preliminary clash ... At the knockout round now, we went back to the drawing board and fix what we had to fix and know that it wasn't a little foil this time we brought our A game," Stumpy said.

The St Thomas-based sound, which also operates out of New York, USA, revealed that there is an ongoing musical feud between them and the Ruff Kut sound.

"We have a history with Ruff Kut. We and Ruff Kut have a rivalry going on. A lot of persons didn't know but this is the third time we have clashed. We are the only sound that has ever gone to St Elizabeth and beat them in their hometown," he remarked.

In last Friday's clash, Ruff Kut headed a strong start to the clash in round one and almost won the round, but found itself in breach when its DJ uttered a prohibited word, resulting in the round automatically going to Unruly Stumpy. From there it was all downhill for the St Bess sound as Unruly Stumpy secured unanimous decisions from the judges in the next four rounds.

The win means that Unruly Stumpy moves closer to winning the cash prize of $1 million and trophy for being the best sound system on the island.

The clash continues this Friday with Five Star against Twin Star Sound.
