Kingston Tech student bringing positive messages in music
SeanJay Clarke, a 15-year-old student at Kingston Technical High School, is looking to rise above the noise with his uplifting musical message.
He showcased his talent among fellow students during the Flow Safer Internet launch at the school last Friday. Despite feeling slightly nervous, Clarke's poignant lyrics resonated with his peers, striking a harmonious and positive note.
" No youth, yuh cyah post that
Me a tell them the truth and dem a go mi tough chat
If dem post something wrong you know a problem that
And some feel a way when you tell them that.
Dem a post all nudes and dem know that wrong,
cause when dem post, who see it? Nuh big man..." he sang.
When his stage fright, no doubt influenced by youth and inexperience, got the better of him, his classmates finished his lyrics.
Clarke told THE STAR that his ambitions of becoming a recording artiste truly blossomed in 2019 when he noticed his talents set him apart.
"From I was going Mico Junior High, I see that I have the talent, I have the mindset, I have the positivity and sometimes I see other artistes performing on stage. Some are influencing some to be themselves and push for their goals and push for what they want," he said.
Clarke said with his song Internet Safety, he wanted to give not only his classmates, but the wider community a word of warning.
"I've been seeing on the Internet, some people posting nudes and guns and I'm wondering like, ... An undercover police can be on the Internet scrolling and track down this person. Then when they see them in real life, they can charge them or search them or lock them up," he said.
While open to newer artistes, he said his major musical influences are Buju Banton, Chronixx, Bob Marley, Sizzla, Vybz Kartel and other veterans.
He told THE STAR that while working on his musical career, he also hopes to open his own business.
"I have two careers I am focusing on. I want to be an entrepreneur and I want to be an artiste. I want to own my own bakery," he said.
