Dancehall artiste D’Angel and members of her team will travel to sections of western Jamaica today to assist 300 children who were affected by Hurricane Melissa with school supplies.

This move came after the entertainer was forced to cancel her annual back-to-school drive because of low support from a benefit concert that was held last month at the Prison Oval in Spanish Town, St Catherine.

“I was very disheartened after the low support in Spanish Town from the benefit concert but, out of every bad situation comes something good. So, a few sponsors heard my cry and decided to jump on board quickly to help some of the most vulnerable children down in western Jamaica. We will be heading down there and just put some smiles on these parents’ and children’s faces,” she said.

According to D’Angel, after the treat was cancelled, she was disheartened, as those in need rest heavily on her mind. She said she later gathered her thoughts and made another attempt to reach out to a few sponsors.

“I had to reach out because I was having sleepless nights. I felt like I was going into depression when I realised that I couldn’t help the children. I am at a better place now that I can do something,” she said, thanking Designerbodys, Torpedo Loans and others for answering the call.

D’Angel said that the team, including her son Marco Dean Davis, has packed 300 bags with school supplies. But, even as they take on the journey to western Jamaica, she said she is already wrapping her head around hosting her end-of-year event.

“This is why I never stopped praying for God to bless me so I can bless others through my charity work. The next mission will be my 10-year anniversary care package food drive for the elderly and children in December. I will be knocking on corporate Jamaica’s doors and reaching out for possible partnerships and sponsorships,” D’Angel said.
