Mother charged with child abuse
A St Catherine woman who allegedly used a bottle and broom to beat her 11-year-old daughter is to return to the Old Harbour Resident Magistrate's Court in February of next year.
Charged with child abuse is Kemisha Riley, a 35-year-old labourer of Old Harbour Bay in the parish.
When Riley appeared before Resident Magistrate Horace Mitchell, she pleaded not guilty.
Allegations are that on November 24, 2015, the complainant reportedly told her brother an indecent language. When she reached home, the accused grabbed her and beat her mercilessly causing bruises and swelling.
Her father arrived and witnessed the assault. The matter was reported to the police and the mother was charged. She is to return to court on February 12, 2016.
