Update | Flight attendant gets $1 million bail in cocaine smuggling case
The flight attendant accused of trying to smuggle 7.5 pounds of cocaine to the United States has been granted $1 million bail.
Troy Ingleton, a 49-year-old dual Jamaican and United States citizen, was granted bail today by Parish Judge Alwaine Smith in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court following an application by his attorney, Matthew Hyatt.
Ingleton was arrested and charged last Wednesday with possession of cocaine, dealing in cocaine, attempting to export cocaine and conspiracy to export cocaine.
According to the police, on October 13 about 8 a.m., Ingleton was scheduled to board a JetBlue Airways flight bound for New York when anomalies were detected in his luggage during routine security screening at the Norman Manley International Airport.
Personnel from the Firearm and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) conducted a detailed search and reportedly found a pouch containing two rectangular packages of cocaine weighing 3.4 kilogrammes, or 7.5 pounds.
The drug has an estimated street value of $2.9 million.
Ingleton was taken into custody and subsequently charged.
He is scheduled to return to court on January 19 next year.
Meanwhile, he remains under investigation in connection with more than 120 rounds of ammunition reportedly found at his home during a subsequent police search.
A licensed 9mm pistol was also seized.
