A 58-year-old St Thomas man was beaten, left bleeding and nearly shot after a group of gunmen allegedly posed as police officers to gain access to his home during a terrifying pre-dawn invasion.

The incident reportedly happened about 3 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, at the man’s premises in Albion Heights, 14 Miles, Yallahs.

According to reports, the man was home alone when the intruders knocked on his bedroom door, identified themselves as police officers and ordered him outside.

But when he opened the door, one of the men allegedly entered with a gun and struck him in the head and mouth, leaving him bleeding and swollen, with a loosened tooth.

The homeowner reportedly realised that the men were impostors and tussled with the intruder. During the struggle, the gunman allegedly fired a shot, damaging a wall.

The man managed to get outside with his machete, only to encounter two other gunmen who were reportedly lurking nearby.

The men allegedly fired shots at him, but he managed to escape without sustaining any further injuries.

The matter was reported to the Yallahs Police, who are now searching for the suspects.

Investigators are probing the incident as shooting with intent, burglary, assault occasioning grievous bodily harm, using a firearm to commit a felony and damaging a building with intent to injure.
