Two murdered in St Ann
The St Ann police were kept busy yesterday with the early morning murders of two young men in separate incidents in the parish. A suspect in one of the murders has been held, while the perpetrators in the other incident remain at large.
The dead youngsters have been identified as Bryan Henry, 21, of Mansfield Heights in Ocho Rios, St Ann, and Akeem Howell, 20, of Exchange also in the parish.
In the first incident, which claimed the life of Henry, the police told THE STAR that at about 5:30 a.m., Henry was sitting on Apple Avenue, in Mansfield Heights, among a group of four men when two gunmen approached and opened fire at them, then fled the scene. Henry was shot and killed, while a soldier, who was also among the group, was injured. He remains in hospital in stable condition, the police said.
Later, about 11 a.m., the police were again called to the scene of another crime in Middle Street, Exchange, where Howell was stabbed to death. The police's Corporate Communications Unit told THE STAR that Howell was stabbed during a dispute between some residents and a man.
The man has been taken into custody and is being questioned by the police. The police said it is unclear whether the incidents are related.
