Three policemen shot and injured hours apart
Following the shooting incident involving a policeman on the Vineyards toll road in St Catherine yesterday afternoon, two other cops were shot and injured on Spanish Town Road in Kingston last evening.
Both officers are currently hospitalised. However, the police's Corporate Communications Unit was unable to provide further details on the shooting.
That incident followed the brazen attack on another policeman on the P.J. Patterson Highway in Spanish Town, St Catherine, yesterday afternoon.
Reports are that about 1 p.m., a police team was conducting vehicle checkpoint operations on the toll road when they signalled the driver of a Toyota Corolla motor car to stop. The driver complied and the officers reportedly approached the motor car. It is alleged that two men then alighted from the motor car, opened gunfire and a shoot-out ensued.
When the shooting subsided, it was discovered that one of the officers, along with a 17-year-old female and a 14-year-old boy, had received gunshot wounds. They are being treated at hospital.
The men escaped in a nearby community. The driver who fled the scene was later accosted and is now in police custody.
