St Ann most wanted killed
The man listed by the St Ann police as the parish's most wanted is dead. Devroy Vernon, otherwise called Peebo, the reputed leader of the Mini Bank gang in the Mansfield area of Ocho Rios, was shot and killed during an alleged gun battle around four Tuesday morning in the Capture Land area of Parry Town.
A policeman involved in the operation was shot and injured.
Superintendent Gary Francis, commandant of the St Ann police, said a loaded Star.40 pistol was recovered.
"Vernon was leader of the Mini Bank gang in Falkland and he was wanted for the murder of Brian Henry on June 26, 2016 in Mansfield and was a suspect in two other murders in committed in St Mary and St Ann," Francis told THE STAR.
Francis said the police were conducting an operation in the Capture Land area of Parry Town when the police came under fire. The police returned the fire and after the shooting subsided, Vernon and a policeman were found suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both were taken to the St Ann's Bay Regional Hospital where Vernon was pronounced dead.
Francis said the recovery of the gun brings to six the number of illegal firearms the police in St Ann have recovered in the last three weeks and 38 since the start of the year.
