An 84-year-old woman who lived alone was raped and killed by at least two vicious monsters who broke into her Cockburn Avenue, St Andrew, home yesterday.

"We will have to do a post-mortem to find out exactly what happened. From all indications it seems as if she was raped," Superintendent Arthur Brown, head of the St Andrew South Police Division, told THE STAR last night.

One man, who residents alleged was involved in the rape of the old woman, was chased, beaten and killed by residents. Brown told THE STAR that the incident occurred about 6:30 yesterday morning.

"From our information there were two persons who broke into the old lady's house," Brown said.

Brown has asked that the other man who is alleged to have been involved in the incident turn himself into the police for questioning.
