$55 million to study Rio Cobre

Approximately $55 million is to be spent studying the potential of the Rio Cobre to provide water for the Kingston Metropolitan Area (KMA).

Cabinet approved the award of a contract in the amount of US$426,997.98 to Stanley Consultants Inc., for the provision of consultancy service for the Rio Cobre Basin Water Resources Study.

The consulting firm will be undertaking a hydro-geological and water resource investigation and assessment of the impact, if any, of the proposed abstraction from the Rio Cobre River/Basin by the National Water Commission.

This project will be implemented under the KMA Water Supply Improvement Programme, which is being funded by the Inter-American Development Bank.
