Traffic snarls along Constant Spring Road, St, Andrew.

Some 76 parcels of lands are to be acquired by the Government in preparation for a possible expansion of the road network in upper St Andrew.

The lands, which will be about four acres in total, will be acquired between Red Hills Road and Norbrook Drive in St Andrew.

A Ministry paper tabled in Parliament indicates that the lands will be needed for the implementation of the Major Infrastructure Development Programme (MIDP).

Some US$100 million will be spent this year on road projects through the MIDP this fiscal year.

The projects to be undertaken include improvement of Constant Spring Road to Manor Park, and the Mandela Highway.

MIDP commenced in 2013/2014. The five-year programme, valued at US$354 million, addresses the need to increase safety on the roads by improving a number of important thoroughfares through widening, rehabilitation, and realignment where necessary.
