Woman to be sentenced for stealing baby

February 03, 2017
Parents Milton and Angel Praba Maxwell share a light moment with their baby Danisha, while their first child, Marisha, plays with her baby sister.

The woman who stole a baby from the University Hospital of the West Indies last December will be sentenced on March 30.

The accused, Lorna Williams, pleaded guilty to forcible abduction at the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court yesterday.

The baby, Danisha, was taken from a cot adjacent to her mother's bed while she slept.

The day old infant was, however, recovered later that day at a private medical facility in Rollington Town, east Kingston, in Williams' possession.

She went missing for about seven and a half hours.

Williams, 47, was employed as a medical assistant at the hospital.

The hospital in a statement at the time of the incident said the infant went missing at about 10:30 a.m., outside of visiting hours that begins at 11 a.m.
