Relative accused of stealing $250,000 after being left to cut yard

A St Andrew man who allegedly left a relative at his home to cut the yard is now facing court after the relative reportedly helped himself to jewellery and electronic gadgets worth approximately $250,000.

Charged with housebreaking and larceny is 21-year-old Shamari Jones, otherwise called ‘Polo’, of Salisbury Plain, St Andrew.

According to police reports, the incident happened on Friday, August 21, at a house on Paradise Road in Lawrence Tavern.

The homeowner reportedly locked up his two-bedroom house and left Jones, who is his relative, at the premises to carry out yard work.

But police allege that instead of sticking to the task, Jones gained entry to the house through an opening above the door.

Once inside, he allegedly stole jewellery and electronic gadgets valued at approximately $250,000.

The matter was reported to the police, and Jones later turned himself in at the Constant Spring Police Station.

During a question-and-answer session with investigators, Jones reportedly admitted to the offence and was subsequently charged.

He is scheduled to appear before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Thursday, September 10.

What began as a simple favour to cut the yard has now landed the 21-year-old relative in serious legal trouble.
