Howard Paul Reynolds, director of Reynold's Funeral Home, has apologised for the major foul-up at his establishment that led to the body of a Trelawny man being wrongly buried.

The body of Melvin Innis, 88, was mistakenly buried last Saturday after a funeral service for Lascelle 'Fritty' Ferguson, 64.

Both men are from the community of Deeside. The undertakers took Innis' body to Ferguson's funeral. There was a viewing, after which the body was buried. The foul-up was uncovered after Innis' daughter, Cynthia, went to the funeral home to make arrangements for his funeral.

"They pulled out Fritty, saying it was my father. I nearly died. I know Fritty and immediately recognised what had happened," the daughter said.

On Saturday, Reynolds turned up at Innis' funeral to "face what I had to face".

"It should not have happened. We have been operating in this parish for 25 years, and it is the first time anything like this has happened," Reynolds said.

"My apologies to the relatives and residents. I don't know if it will be accepted, but I am begging you, please," he added.
