Archbishop Dr Leslie Morgan, a Jamaican-raised church leader who lives in the United States of America (USA), said Christians should not appear "poor and ragged", especially if they are preaching a message of prosperity.

"John the Baptist was ragged but in those times it was accepted. Things have changed and people have upgraded. Your deportment and outward approach sometimes sends a stronger message," said the clergyman, who heads the Search of Life Church of God ministry in Mount Vernon, New York.

Born and raised in Spanish Town, St Catherine, the bishop said he cringes whenever he sees shabby-looking Christians going door-to-door, ministering to people.

"It only shows suffering and reduces the chances of people accepting that following Christ is a blessings, both materially and spiritually," Morgan said.

He insisted that church leaders have a responsibility to assist in ensuring that missionaries are easy on the eye when they go about seeking to win souls for the Kingdom of God.

"A pastor cyah a drive luxury car, live inna big house and him member shoes bruk down, and yuh expect people fi no see that as nothing?" he asked.

Morgan said that religious leaders who take offence to his utterances are not genuine, and are only pimping the Lord's words.

"I know this is not a popular view to hold as a church leader, but I am ready for the criticism. If yuh feel offended as a pastor, it means yuh nah do something right," he said.
