Tastee employee dies after gun attack
An employee of Tastee died on Thursday after he was shot at the company's headquarters in Cross Roads, Kingston.
He has been identified as Roland Sawyer, also called 'Indian' of Iron River district, St Andrew. A member of the Jamaica Defence Force was also shot and injured.
One eyewitness report is that about 4 p.m., two men walked into the fast-food establishment and fired at least five shots hitting Sawyer who was leaving work and the soldier, who was a customer. The soldier was reportedly hit in the leg. Both men were taken to hospital where Sawyer succumbed to his injuries.
"Dem just walk in and after mi hear the shot dem, mi just hear body a bawl out [Indian, Indian]," the eyewitness said. "Di soldier just did a buy him patty but di bwoy dem, dem nuh response." The eyewitness said that the incident has left her terrified.
"Mi frighten, enuh. A run mi run. Mi run leave everything cah mi swear seh mi get shot," the eyewitness said.
Similarly, a passer-by could not contain her shock when she saw what was happening on the scene. She told THE WEEKEND STAR that she no longer feels safe.
"Mi nuh wah guh in a nuh more food place guh buy nuh food, because supposed mi did in there and then man come fi somebody and me get a stray shot? I could lose my life. So I'll never feel comfortable going into a next food place," she said.
