Cops target 40 wanted persons for Lent

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has thrown out a challenge to citizens to help the police capture 40 wanted persons within 40 days.

Dubbed the '40 in 40' campaign, the initiative is being staged over the Lenten season and mirrors a 2018 initiative that was dubbed 'What are You Giving Up for Lent'.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Stephanie Lindsay, head of the JCF's Corporate Communications Unit, said the 40 in 40 campaign is one of the many tools employed by the police to keep crime and violence under control.

"We remain committed to the prevention and reduction of serious, violent and organised crimes by removing that which feeds these misdeeds - guns, gangs and gunmen. Not only are we unrelenting in our pursuit of criminals and creating safer communities, but also in having law-abiding citizens appreciate the importance of speaking out and standing up against criminality," Lindsay said

The '40 in 40' initiative aligns with the JCF's broader crime reduction strategies, which include leveraging communication through initiatives like Wanted Wednesdays on social media.

"The component of combating crime through communication and engagement has reaped success so we thank the public for its embrace of our work and encourage them to continue sharing information confidently and confidentially through any of the reporting platforms - 119, 811 or via Crime Stop at 311," Lindsay added.
