Education ministry prioritising technology in classrooms

Education Minister Fayval Williams says there is now a critical need for teachers to have access to laptops and other technological devices at the quickest time possible, as the use of technology in the classroom is now being treated with high priority.

"This is a reaffirmation of the Government's commitment to advancing education through technology and providing educators with the necessary resources to give all our students the chance to effectively compete in a digitised world," said Williams, in a story that was carried by the Jamaica Information Service.

Williams, who was speaking at the recent opening of the technology lab at the Moneague College, St Ann, said the Government is committed to giving educators access to technological devices, to foster a "21st century learning experience for all students in Jamaica".

According to Williams, what was done at Moneague College forms part of the Government's continuing mission to provide teachers with the requisite skills and equipment to bringing technology into classrooms, which is crucial to having the nation's children up to date on digital advancements in education.

Williams further stated that technology is vital in modern education, as it enables teachers to provide students with up-to-date interactive lessons which are usually more engaging and stimulating as, with laptops and other technological devices, they can utilise multimedia elements, online resources, and interactive activities.
