Businessman linked to 2024 shooting deported to Jamaica

A St Catherine businessman who allegedly fled Jamaica after a gun attack that left three people injured has been captured overseas and returned to the island to face a string of serious charges.

Charged is 38-year-old Chavis Peart, otherwise called ‘Geezy’ or ‘Baller’, of Jumbling Place, Portmore, St Catherine.

Peart has been charged with three counts of wounding with intent, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorised possession of ammunition, and using a firearm to commit a felony.

According to police, the charges stem from a shooting incident along Leith Avenue, Kingston 13, on May 9, 2024.

Reports from the Hunts Bay police are that Peart was visiting the mother of his child at about 6:35 p.m. when an argument reportedly developed between him and a relative.

Police said the disagreement escalated into a physical confrontation.

During the altercation, Peart allegedly pulled a firearm and opened fire, hitting the relative and two other people.

The three injured persons were taken to hospital, where they were treated before making reports to the police.

An investigation was subsequently launched, but police later discovered that Peart had allegedly fled the country in an effort to evade law enforcement.

For more than two years, he remained outside Jamaica.

However, the manhunt eventually caught up with him following a collaborative effort involving the Jamaica Constabulary Force and international law-enforcement agencies.

Peart was deported to Jamaica on Thursday, August 27, 2026, and four days later, on Saturday, August 29, he was formally charged.

The JCF said the arrest forms part of its continued intelligence-driven efforts to track down wanted persons and criminal suspects, disrupt criminal activities and ensure that people who flee the island to avoid law enforcement are eventually brought to justice.

For Peart, the alleged escape from the island has now ended with him back in Jamaica and facing multiple charges over the 2024 shooting.
