Molynes rally to defeat Treasure Beach

Molynes United produced a spirited performance to record an exciting 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Treasure Beach in their Jamaica Premier League football encounter at Stadium East yesterday.

Captain Tyrigue Wilson (45th), substitutes Oquassa Chong (87th) and Shavon Miller (88th) were the goalscorers for Molynes United. Adrian Johnson (41st) and Jhanni Flemmings (43rd) were the goalscorers for Treasure Beach, who led 2-0 after 43 minutes.

Jermaine Thomas, head coach of Molynes United, was delighted with his team’s effort because they never gave up and they fought right to the end.

“I didn’t think that we were beaten at any point in the game because they scored early, so that gave us sufficient time to reorganise and plan because we knew what we had to do,” said Thomas.

“We were turning over possession too easily, and that affected us somewhat and it crippled how we wanted to play. However, we got it right in the second half, and we made a few changes, and that made a huge difference for us,” he said.

Treasure Beach’s head coach, Kemar Ricketts, was disappointed with his team’s performance.

“It is a mere lack of concentration. I think our preparations started late and everybody would have known that, hence the changes in the game, but such is life, and so we just have to try again,” said Ricketts, who made five changes at once midway through the second half.

“It wasn’t a mistake because the players were winded, and so we just have to be honest about how we go about things. We saw what was happening when we were leading 2-1, and we wanted some control in the game, and so we needed some fresh legs, but the players have to focus for 90 minutes,” he said.

Treasure Beach started the match very confidently as they dominated early possession. After missing two clear chances to score, Johnson made amends when he arrived in the centre of the box and fired home a left-sided cross from Daniel Hardy to give his team the lead.

Treasure Beach doubled their lead two minutes later when midfielder Jhanni Flemmings fired home a rasping 35-yard shot which went like a rocket past Samuel.

Wilson reduced the deficit for Molynes United on the stroke of half-time with a powerful right-footed shot past custodian Mowey Morgan.
