After losses Portmore must find another gear
Promoted Portmore United are not surprised by the fact that the team lies in second position in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) by virtue of goal difference behind reigning champions Arnett Gardens.
Both teams are tied on 43, points apiece, however, Arnett have a better goal difference with 10 sets of games remaining in the preliminary stage.
"No surprise," Clive Marshall, general manager of Portmore United, told STAR Sports at the RSPL weekly press conference yesterday at Red Stripe.
"We are not surprised as the team is a good balance of youngsters and experienced players," he said.
"The youngsters are developing and being guided by seasoned players such as captain Omar Daley," he pointed out.
Having lost to Arnett Gardens and Humble Lion in the last two fixtures, Marshall is aware that another loss could see his team slipping in the league.
"We have to be mindful as another loss or two can set you back. It is the final round in the preliminary stage, so we want to find another gear in order to make the last four to fight for the title," Marshall said.
Javon East is the club's top striker on eight goals and the general manager is pleased with the player's development.
"Javon East has great talent from his days at Calabar High School, and we hope he continues to score goals and blossoms into a better player," Marshall added.
