Humble Lion FC roared past Portmore United FC 2-1 to gain an advantage in the first-leg Red Stripe Premier League semi-final at Effortville Community Centre in May Pen yesterday.

The winners scored courtesy of two beautiful strikes by Ricardo Cousins in the 59th minute and substitute Francois Swaby (71st), while Osani Ricketts netted for Portmore in the 75th minute.

Humble Lion started well and pushed back Portmore through captain Wolry Wolfe, Cousins and Andrew Vanzie in midfield. Cousins opened the score when he beat Shaven Sean-Paul to wild celebration from the massive home support. Then Swaby who was introduced in the 69th minute made it 2-0 two minutes later.

However, Portmore fought back and scored an important goal to cut the lead heading into the second leg.

Both teams played hard and entertained the supporters under wet conditions.

The teams will meet again in the second-leg semi-final next Monday. The winner on aggregate will advance to the final.

Meanwhile, the first leg semi-final between Montego Bay United and defending champions Arnett Gardens will be played tonight at the Montego Bay Sports Complex starting at 8:40 p.m.
