Barbican, Marverley/Hughenden to decide Super League title

May 06, 2016

Maverley-Hughenden FC and Barbican FC will square off in the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA)/JB Charley's Rum Super League final at the Constant Spring Complex this evening, starting at 7.

All is set for a grand showdown in the Corporate Area premier competition as both teams have been boosted by talented players, so the winner could be the team that is better organised on the day.

In two meetings during the preliminary stage, they ended with a victory apiece. Maverley-Hughenden defeated Barbican 1-0 in the first round, while Barbican turned the tables with a similar scoreline in the second fixture.

Maverley-Hughenden's captain, Andrew Peddlar, is oozing confidence and said his team is ready for the tough battle.

"The vibe is right in the camp, and winning this Super League would be history. This is our first season in the league and we are in the final," Peddlar told STAR Sports yesterday.

"We are well prepared and focused; however, we know that they won't just lie down, so it will be a tough game," the central defender added.

The competition's leading goalscorer, Phillip Peddie on 13 goals, is expected to lead Maverley-Hughenden's attack. He should get valuable support from Wayne Williams, Roberto Fletcher, Nigel Reid, and the veteran Kasai Hinds.

Barbican is also fully aware that it won't be an easy task.

"Maverley/Hughenden are very strong, especially in attack. They have been scoring a lot of goals. However, we started the season slowly and I think that we have peaked at the right time," vice-president of Barbican FC, Chris James, said.

James will rely on veteran striker Gregg Taylor, captain Courtney Reid, Jermaine Parris, and Nicholas Smith for the club's second Super League title in three seasons.

The winner will receive $400,000, while the runner-up is guaranteed $250,000.
