The two-man team of William Knibbs and Jonathan Newnham finished tenth overall at the World University Games golf tournament held in Brive-la-Gaillarde, France, from June 23 - 26.

Hosts France took the top title, finishing with 583 strokes. Ireland were second (589), and Chinese Taipei took third with 591. Jamaica finished one stroke behind the United States on 624. Fourteen nations participated in the men's section where the best two scores out of four were computed each day, which placed Jamaica at a distinct disadvantage with only two players.

On a difficult course - Golf de Planchetorte - which they hadn't seen prior to the practice day, Newnham shot 76, 76, 79 and 74, while Knibbs had scores of 83, 80, 79 and 77. Both golfers will return to the island shortly with team manager Dr Mark Newnham.

When they arrive home the golfers will immediately commence training for the Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships which will take place in The Bahamas from July 24-30.
