Confident Barnett expects big throw at Trials
Discus thrower Tara-Sue Barnett is oozing with confidence ahead of this weekend's Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association Supreme Ventures National Senior Championships at the National Stadium.
Barnett, one of three throwers who have already attained the Olympic qualifying mark of 61.00 metres, told STAR Sports yesterday that she expects to win the event this weekend.
The former Edwin Allen High thrower who is completing her final preparations at the Stadium East field said:
"I am confident of victory and I am looking forward to the competition," said Barnett whose personal best 61.28m ranks her as the Jamaican No. 2 going into Friday's battle.
Barnett who had a one year stint at G.C. Foster College before going to Grand Canyon University in the United States has cited hard work for her quick improvement in the past year.
"I knew I had it in me to do something special and I really made a lot of sacrifice the past season and it has paid off and when I threw the Olympic qualifying standard I was extremely happy. I was not surprised because I knew it was coming soon," she added.
She continued: "I want to throw over 60m once again. I am aiming for a world top eight throw in the event soon. Barnett is now ranked 32 in the world.
The other two throwers who have attained the Olympic qualifying standard are St Jago High past student Kellion Knibb and Shadae Lawrence, the former Hydel High standout.
