KINGSTON:

Come September, students of the Gaynstead High School in Kingston will have access to a new and improved netball court courtesy of a $4-million donation made through the Sports Development Foundation (SDF).

This was disclosed by Minister of Culture, Gender Affairs, Entertainment and Sport Olivia 'Babsy' Grange, while speaking at the school's annual graduation ceremony on Wednesday.

According to Grange, a past student of the institution, the donation will be made available through the SDF, an agency of the Ministry of Culture, Gender Affairs, Entertainment and Sport. She added that the institution has done significantly well in netball over the last couple of years, particularly in the last academic year when they copped their first ever netball title.

"The move forms part of the ministry's overall thrust to make sports a serious part of the national education curriculum, with the view to further leverage the economic potential of sports to national development and sports to personal development and social mobility," Grange added.
