CHRIS Gayle slammed a brilliant unbeaten 108 to lead the Jamaica Tallawahs to a seven-wicket win over the Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) match at Queen's Park Oval in Trinidad last night.
The self-styled 'universe boss' was at his devastating best slamming six fours and eleven massive sixes off just 56 balls as the Tallawahs reached their target with 10 balls to spare.
Scores: Knights Riders 191 for four (20 overs); Tallawahs 192 for three in 18.2 overs.
The Tallawahs' captain featured in a match-winning 108-run stand with fellow Jamaican Andre Russell which lifted the Tallawahs from 69 for two after 9.3 overs to 177 (16.5 overs). Russell made 24 from 18 balls while Kumar Sangakkara chipped in with 20 from 14. Knight Riders' spinner Sunil Narine took one for nine in four overs.
Earlier the Knight Riders, sent in by the Tallawahs, were boosted by South African Hashim Amla with 74 off 52 balls and New Zealanders Colin Munro (55 off 39) and Brendon McCullum (35 off 18), reached a very competitive 191 for four off their allotted 20 overs.
The hosts appeared poised for victory after 10 overs before they were blown away by Gayle's powerful hitting.
