Jamaicans earn silver, bronze at Carebaco championships
Jamaica's senior national badminton representatives showed their mettle throughout the Caribbean Badminton Championships to garner some valuable medals.
Samuel Ricketts and the women's doubles pair of Mikaylia Haldane and Katherine Wynter got bronze and silver respectfully.
Samuel Ricketts got to the semi-finals by getting by Kevin Yao Lin Zou of Suriname 21-9, 21-9 and Nicholas Bonkowsky of Trinidad 21-19, 21-14. He then faced Nelson Javier of the Dominican Republic in a thrilling three setter that went down to the wire.
However the Dominican prevailed 16-21, 21-19, 18-21.
In the women's doubles, Haldane and Wynter got to the finals by defeating Amanda Haywood and Sabrina Scott of Barbados 21-18, 21-17 and Santusha Ramzan/Priscilla Tjitrodipo of Suriname 21-16, 21-17.
In the finals they went down fighting tooth and nail to Nairoby Jimenez/Bermary Munoz of the Dominican Republic 17-21, 23-21, 15-21.
Haldane lost in the first round of her women's singles to Santusha Ramzan of Suriname while Katherine made it to the second round where she lost to Solangel Guzman of Trinidad.
Matthew Lee made it to the second round but lost to Will Lee of Trinidad 18-21, 15-21. Lee then teamed up with Kenneth Anglin but the lost in the first round of the men's doubles to the Dominican pair of Aquino/Rosario 10-21, 21-16, 17-21. Kenneth lost in the first round to Will Lee also.
