Rookie Jamaican jockey Shamaree Muir continued to shine when he won the CAN$12,300 Paint the Park Purple Stakes as part of a double on the 10-race programme at Evergreen Park on Sunday.

The 21-year-old, in his first international season, combined with 2-1 chance Marcado to win one of the supporting features in race nine, following up on his earlier victory in race five with 3-1 bet Mosquito Creek.

With no action at his Northlands Park base in Edmonton, Muir headed north to Grand Prairie and struck success on the day's card.

Going six furlongs in one of the four added-money events on the programme, Muir broke Marcado smartly and settled her off the pace as Alphagate made the early running.

Freshside tracked from second with Ann Can staving off Marcado in third spot.

Muir made his move on the final turn, bringing the seven-year-old bay mare to challenge the leaders before drawing off handsomely in the stretch to win by 2-3/4 lengths in a time of one minute, 12:34 seconds.

His first win had come in a 5-1/2 furlong sprint when he carried chestnut colt Mosquito Creek to victory by a length over the two-year-olds.

He raced Monquito Creek off the pace before producing a strong late run to get up in the dying yards.
