Llori Sharpens up for Caribbean Age group triathlon Champs
Jamaica's top junior triathlete, Llori Sharpe, is looking to win a third consecutive title in the 16-19 category at the Caribbean Age Group Triathlon Championship tomorrow at the Miami Marine Stadium in Key Biscayne, Florida, USA.
Sharpe, who won in her age group on both occasions that the championship was held in 2016 and 2017, admitted that she was not sharp heading into the championship but is confident.
"My race is a 400m event, 16 km bike and 5km run. I am pretty confident going there. Although I have not being training as I wanted to because of CAPE exams which usually hamper my programme," Sharpe said. "I still was able to get in some training sessions, especially in swimming and biking. I don't think that I am too far off, so I remain confident in winning again," the17-year-old St Andrew High School student added.
The Jamaica Triathlon Association will field a 13-member team.
This is the largest contingent that Jamaica has every fielded to any triathlon championships. Sharpe is the only junior among the group of athletes participating.
Veteran Jakes Champion Jassette Bromfield will participate in the duathlon 1.6km run, 16km bike, 5k run.
Llori Sharpe, Elizabeth Mondon, Lesli Prendegast, Ina Daley, Pedro Chirine, Marie Serrano and Edwin Vaquerano will do the sprint distance, 400m swim, 16km bike, and 5km run.
Lisa Lindo, David Osbourne Shilgi Ido, Alan Beckford, and Lance Rochester will participate in the Olympic Distance 1500m swim 40km bike 10km run.
The team will be looking to dominate the Caribbean section of the championships.
