Record hunt - Rusea's hitman targets DCup goal-scoring mark this season
Rusea's High School's winger Kenroy Campbell, who has a personal target to break the daCosta Cup goal-scoring mark, enjoyed a standout performance in the defending champion's perfect start to their 2018 ISSA/WATA daCosta Cup campaign on Saturday.
Campbell was impressive throughout the contest and opened the scoring for his team in the 22nd minute in their 4-0 victory over Green Island High School at the Montego Bay Sports Complex.
Cory Mattews (34th) and Jhavoy Diaz (37th) added to the tally, sending Rusea's into the half-time break with a 3-0 lead before Bobby Brown sealed it with another strike in the 75th minute.
"I want to take my team to the final this year again and come out as the competition's leading goalscorer and MVP. Some people are already putting a number on the amount of goals I'll score this season. For me, I want to score as many goals as possible to break the record," said Campbell.
Campbell, who started at left full back last year for the defending champions, is relishing the opportunity given by the coaching staff to play higher up the field this season.
"It's a good look, I think the coach is looking for more attacking play and goals this year. So they try me in a more attacking position, where I can get these goals for the team," said Campbell.
"Last year, I did well at the left-back position even setting Faggotty (Leonardo) from 60 yards out for one of the goals," he added.
When asked about Campbell's performance, assistant coach Dwayne Ambusely, while highlighting the work done by his entire attacking unit, stated that he was particularly impressed by Campbell's showing.
"That is our strong point. Our strong point is our front three with Mathews, Diaz and Campbell. Diaz and Campbell really pressure the ball and pose much up front today," said Ambusely.
