Green Island banking on marksmen to up stage Frome
Carl 'Long life' Palmer, coach of Green Island High School, is hoping his goal scorers can continue their prolific form when they take on Frome Technical High School in the ISSA/WATA daCosta Cup at the Green Island playing field this afternoon.
Palmer's side recorded 4-0 victories over Marlene Ottey High and Cambridge High with strikers Alton Miller and Tyrek Gordon scoring hat-tricks in the respective matches.
Green Island, on six points, is third on the zone B table behind Frome who leads on goal difference over Rusea's.
"The team don't just depend on two players, it just happen that they are in the position to finish. I think they are two great players, very talented and very skilfully who can create opportunities not only to score (for themselves) but for others to score also," said Palmer.
"We are looking to five players to get the goals apart from set plays. Hope everyone can click tomorrow because that would be good for us in getting the win," he added.
Green Island advanced to the second round last season as one of two best third place finishers. When asked about their aim this season Palmer said they are focused on getting a positive result against Frome.
"To be honest, I'm taking it a game at a time. Before I think about coming out of the group I have to ensure I can get all three points from every game I have. So right now I'm focused on Frome come tomorrow," said.
