Celebrity cricketers to set to light up Elgin Town
Former West Indies cricketer Wavell Hinds is excited about this Sunday's staging of a celebrity cricket match that has been planned for the Elgin Town community ground in Hanover.
"It's about bringing a big fun day and celebrity cricket match to the people of the Eastern Hanover constituency for Christmas," said Hinds, who is the People's National Party's caretaker for the constituency.
"We are bringing down the Franklyn Rose, Jimmy Adams, Dave Cameron, Wayne Lewis, Tamar Lambert, Delroy Morgan, and all these people to come and celebrate with the people of Eastern Hanover," Hinds added.
The day's activities will feature cricket matches. There will be an Elgin Town community team that will go up against an Eastern Hanover all-star team, while Wavell Hinds XI will play Delroy Morgan XI.
"It's in keeping with our outreach programme and sporting mandate to make sure that we lift the profile of sports in Eastern Hanover," said Hinds.
"In-between the cricket games, we will have a small netball rally for the ladies, and after the cricket games, we want to get a football game going."
"We want to serve the people of Eastern Hanover. We have no barriers or boundaries, and we discriminate against none. All are welcome on the day," Hinds said.
