Molynes Utd steadfast in RSPL plans
Herman Cruickshank, the president of newly promoted Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) club Molynes United, said the club will be very strategic when they delve into the transfer market to seek players to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season.
Cruickshank said the club has a specific budget it intends to work with and while the intention is not to have a surplus of players to choose from, the club will instead be looking for about 10 players to add to the core young players that saw them through the Super League and All-Island Confederation Play-offs.
"We are cutting down to fine-tune to a squad of 35," Cruickshank said. "From that 35, we will have contracts. So we will sign contracts with about 30. The budget allows us to go in the market for about 10 (new players) and the budget is really high in terms of salary and such.
Players' salaries
"So in the first round, we are not going to dive in the market, we are going to use that money to pay some quality players. Our team, last year, was a young one and we want to maintain our youth and mix it with experience. But we have secured the players' salaries and have done a budget for the coaches," he said.
The club's new Jacisera Park home will not be ready for the start of the upcoming season. Cruickshank said they are still in the process of acquiring contractors to put in stands. As a result, the venue is unlikely to be ready until the first round is completed.
"We are working on the field; it has grass and is being watered," Cruickshank explained. "But we need stands, so he (Member of Parliament Peter Phillips) is giving someone the contract to do the stands, so we will be using Constant Spring for the first round.
"We could offer contract labour because we have a lot of youths and that, I think, would help speed it up. But I am not going to enjoy going to 'Spring' because I don't think I will attract a gate pull, but we will work with it," he added.
