Lacovia High aim to improve tactical discipline St Elizabeth team blank B.B. Coke 3-0 in daCosta Cup

Lacovia High School have been working on tactical discipline, and they have been reaping dividends, as reflected by their latest result.

A hat-trick from Tyraun Bembridge fired the school based in Lacovia, S Elizabeth, to a convincing 3-0 victory over B.B. Coke High in the ISSA daCosta Cup rural football competition’s preliminary-round match at B.B. Coke playing field yesterday.

Bembridge opened the scoring in the 20th minute, before doubling Lacovia’s advantage in the 35th. He completed his hat-trick five minutes later to put the result to bed.

“From pre-season, we have been trying to overcome the level of indiscipline. So we are improving in that department. We need to become more disciplined in terms of how we attack and how we defend,” noted Willard Douglas, the team’s assistant coach.

Victory keeps Lacovia second in the Zone B standings on 12 points, while B.B. Coke remain fourth on nine.

“In the first half, we kept the pressure up and were on the ascendancy for most of the game. In the second half, having gone up by those three goals, we were kind of laid back, so B.B. Coke got back into the game,” said Douglas.

“However, we really stood firm and tall and ensured that we were victorious in the end.”

Perfect record

Meanwhile, in St James, 14-year-old Jhemar Roswell and Cavon Morris helped Irwin High maintain their perfect record with a 2-0 victory over former champions Herbert Morrison Technical High at Irwin.

Roswell, a national under-14 player, scored his first goal of the competition, while Morris added the other to keep Irwin atop Zone A with 12 points.

Irwin High’s assistant coach, Sanjay Sterling, said the performance demonstrated the team’s defensive strength, while also highlighting its attacking versatility.

“We knew it was going to be a very difficult game, so we had to come out and get the boys ready. We wanted them to remain sharp, remain humble, and keep focused,” said Sterling.

“Roswell debuted well, scoring his first goal in the competition. The team’s performance overall was good, and we got another clean sheet,” he added.
