Perfect Racing clash with MoBay United in JPL

League leaders Racing United will put their perfect start to the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) football season to the test when they face Montego Bay United on Sunday at Drewsland Mini Stadium, in the first match of a doubleheader.
Racing opened their campaign with back-to-back statement wins against Arnett Gardens and Mount Pleasant Football Academy.
The Densill Theobald-led team will face another strong opponent in a fierce clash between two teams expected to battle for a spot in the playoffs.
Key player
Racing will enter the clash without key player Tajay Grant, who picked up a red card in their 1-0 win over Mt Pleasant.
Theobald explained that Grant, who has netted three goals already, is a crucial part of their team but said they will step up in his absence.
“Grant is irreplaceable. He is so crucial for us,” Theobald said.
“We just have to trust in the other players who will step in, to do a credible job. It’s going to be difficult against MoBay, but we’re expecting, with our preparations, to be up for another challenging game.”
MoBay are hoping to return to winning ways after being held to a scoreless draw against Tru-Juice in their last outing.
In the second match of the doubleheader at Drewsland, Waterhouse will play hosts Treasure Beach.
Waterhouse are looking to continue their perfect start to the season, which saw them thumping Humble Lion 5-0.
Treasure Beach are hunting their first win of the season, after coming away with a 1-1 draw against Tivoli last week.
A lot to prove
Mount Pleasant will have a lot to prove when they travel to St Catherine to face off against Dunbeholden.
The St Ann-based club entered the season with high expectations, but have endured a rough start after back-to-back defeats.
They will enter the competition with some confidence, however, with the return of former captain Sue-Lae McCalla.
McCalla had spent last season in Belgium with RAEC Mons and will bring needed leadership and defensive stability to Mt Pleasant.
Similar story
For Dunbeholden, it is a similar story as they are without a win, after falling to Cavalier and Arnett in their first two games.
Last season’s beaten finalists, Cavalier, will play their first JPL match at home since their acquisition of Turner’s Oval, when they play host to Arnett.
At Stadium East, Molynes United will host recently promoted Tru-Juice, who have made a strong impression in their debut season.
Tru Juice humbled Mt Pleasant 4-0 in their debut, before going on to earn a draw against MoBay in their second game.
Portmore United will finally get their season under way, when they face off against Humble Lion at home.
Portmore had both of their opening games postponed due to their participation in the Concacaf Caribbean Cup, which saw them travelling to the Dominican Republic during the week.
