I'm addicted to porn

Dear Pastor,

I am 18 and currently studying engineering technology. I am having a problem. I am suffering from clinical depression. It feels like I can't go on.

I'm a Christian and I am addicted to pornography.

The reason is, at my lowest point, I have no one to talk to. My parents wouldn't understand, they have enough to deal with already. My sister is going to university and I'm going to college, and time is hard.

I have to even turn away from school because the remaining balance of my fee isn't paid. I'm stressed out about it because I see how hard my father is working and I cannot even help him, and I'm worrying about failing. I pray at times and I believe that God will see me through.

My porn addiction is making it difficult and I want God in my life, so I'm asking you to help me. I just need someone to talk to.

S.W.

Dear S.W.,

You have tried to give reasons why you have got into porn. Frankly speaking, unless a young man has grown up to believe that it is wrong to engage in porn, he considers it great fun.

He likes to see girls having sex with each other, whether in video or pictures in magazines. Older men like to go to the clubs and see girls engage in sex together.

I appreciate your honesty, because very often guys who are lonely find themselves enjoying pornographic literature and movies. So, now that you know your problem, you must deal with it.

DELIVERANCE

You consider it something wrong; do not blame anybody for what you are doing. Change your ways. You attend church. Pray much for deliverance. Nothing is too hard for God to do.

Consider what you are doing as sin. Yes, it is sin. I know it is because the Bible says all unrighteousness is sin.

If you buy the literature and the video tapes, you need to stop buying them. If you borrow them, stop borrowing them.

When you are bored and tempted to turn to porn, read Christian magazines or look at good, clean movies.

You will not overcome porn overnight, but you should ask God to strengthen you. The Bible says "God is our strength."

It also says, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Make sure you do not have any pornographic literature around. And please, when you are tempted to engage in porn, read Romans Chapter 12, verses 1 and 2 as many times as possible.

Make sure that you go to church, especially to prayer meetings and Bible study. You don't have to tell any of the members your problems. You can just ask them to remember you in prayer.

You are having financial problems. Make that, too, a matter of prayer.
